Virtual Reality(VR) and Augmented Reality(AR)

Augmented Reality(AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where objects that appear by a computer-generated by a user device such as a phone, tablet via a sensor.

Virtual reality is a simulated experience that is similar to or completely different from the real world that is generated via a user strap on a headset on their head.

Should I care about VR and AR?

The answer is Yes you should care about VR and AR because they can improve one's life for the better. You may not notice the impact of VR at this current time of 2021 in your daily life but rest assured it impacts your life without you noticing it. For example, VR has helped doctors and medical students learn new procedures and treatments without all the expensive research costs and can improve patient outcomes. VR also helped climbers to visualize the optimized path to climb a mountain before ever stepping a foot on a mountain. VR can provide a new experience in tourism by allowing people to experience a virtual tour of destinations they like to visit in real life at their confrontation in the living room or office space. Imagine you are in your living room and put on a VR set that transports you to Paris, France where you get to see the city's famous architect, destination, and much more without leaving the comfort of your living room. Of course, one of the downsides to it is you are not able to experience and taste the food from Paris, France. As you can see I only highlight some potential benefits of VR on someone's life.

Have you been in this situation where you bought a piece of furniture from a store and when you placed the piece of furniture at home and you did not like the look of the piece? Since most furniture is not refundable you are stuck with it. To avoid this situation you can now download an app on your phone where the app can allow a user to visualize how the furniture will look before purchasing it via AR technology The app will use a sensor on one's smartphone, tablet, other device and alongside with the camera to project a 3D object. AR can help construction workers visual the building before starting construction of the building which reduces the chance of errors.
